Thousands of patients awaiting radiotherapy treatment at the University Hospitals of Leicester will benefit from speedier treatment, increased dignity and comfort through new privacy screens and skylights.

Patients are required to undress in the CT scanning room and lay down on the treatment couches for up to an hour so that treatment can be delivered to the correct place. If they are relaxed and comfortable, they are more stable, which means the staff can get them into the correct position more quickly and the reduce the appointment length.

The funding will pay for four-panel sky panels in the ceilings of six rooms to distract patients and help them relax. It will also pay for privacy screens to give patients more dignity when they change and help make the area less intimidating during what can be an overwhelming experience.
